North Central Thames Foundation School Individual Placement Description - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Placement The department The type of work to expect and learning opportunities F2 Urology Functional and Restorative Urology/Reconstructive Urology The Urology F2 is a key member of the team. They are responsible for preparing the ward round on a daily basis and performing ward duties throughout the day. They are responsible for clerking in new Urology patients in A&E who are accepted by the Registrar on call. That aside, there are ample opportunities to spend time with Consultants and Registrar in both theatres and clinics throughout the day. The Urology F2 is also on the General Surgical SHO on call rota, which again offers extensive learning opportunities. Learning objectives: Taking a history and examining patients Managing urology and general surgical patients Developing practical skills in theatre Managing time and clinical priorities effectively (esp. when on call) Communicating effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues Using evidence, guidelines and audit to benefit patient care Acting in a professional manner at all times Coping with ethical and legal issues which occur during the management of patients with general medical problems Educating patients effectively Becoming life-long learners and teachers. The F2 doctor, when holding the Urology bleep, is responsible for clerking in new Urology patients in A&E. They are responsible for the verbal and written handover of patients to the evening and weekend teams. They will have opportunity to work with the consultants in outpatients clinics and theatres.
