Placement
The department
F2 General Practice
The practices range from small GP practices to large Health Centres some of which
are teaching practices taking medical students and GP registrars.
The type of work to
 Whilst working in a GP placement you will learn to rely mostly on your

diagnosis which will enable you to use all the medical knowledge you have
previously gained. There will be opportunities to participate in audit and be
involved in the weekly staff meetings which highlight the importance of
understanding how one manages a practice. Holding your own clinics daily,
seeing a wide range of people from children to the elderly.
 There may be opportunities to participate in more specialised clinics e.g.
diabetic clinic, pre natal and post natal clinics, asthma checks, weekly
tutorial, weekly practice meeting, weekly practice teaching.

Main duties of the
The F2 doctor and all other staff is responsible for the primary care of patients, safe
placement
prescribing of medication, keeping accurate medical records and communicate
effectively with patients and colleagues. It is also important to work within time
constraints and manage priorities effectively. You will be encouraged to use
guidelines within your practice and be actively involved in audit. You will often face
ethical and legal issues and you will need to learn how to effectively deal with
these, accept your limitations and involve other members of the team to ensure
patient safety. You are expected to attend the structured teaching organized by the
BCF Medical Education Department and any weekly tutorials with your Educational
Supervisor.
