F1 General Psychiatry
Mental Health Unit, Lister Hospital
The core clinical activities for the trainee will include taking part in assessments and
on-going management of patients in the teams. As the trainee gains confidence
he/she will be helped in managing a personal caseload at an appropriate level. The
trainees will be expected to work with other members of the multi-disciplinary team
and take part in team meetings and discussions.

Main duties of
The trainee will divide his/her time between the inpatient unit and the crisis team thus
the placement
gaining experience in domiciliary base care and care in an inpatient environment.
The trainee will observe how a multi-disciplinary team works by participating in multidisciplinary review, the morning handover and discharge planning meetings. We
expect the trainee to understand the principles of psycho pharmacology and prescribe
under supervision.
Weekly personal supervision will be provided by the trainer as indicated in the
timetable. In addition the trainee will have the opportunity to take part in the weekly
Balint Group. Opportunity to attend the local weekly Academic Programme is
provided for, but the trainee would be expected to continue to attend the weekly
Foundation Training Academic meetings.

 Assessment of patients with eating disorders and co-morbid psychiatric conditions
to expect and
under supervision to begin with an aim of developing skill to assess patients
learning
independently.

 To review investigations and relate that patients overall physical health.
 Attending MDT to present their cases and learn about the overall structure and
functioning of an Eating Disorders Team.
 Review evidences in the field of eating disorders and presenting in the in-house
teaching.
 To learn various psychotherapy principles and their use in the management of
eating disorders sufferers.
