Chemistry Department Colloquium Fall 2009 Friday, November 6TH; 3:30 Seminar Hall (room 1315 Chemistry) A Visit with the Provost: Join Chairman Bob Hamers in Greeting Paul DeLuca, Jr. Paul M. DeLuca, Jr., provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is the chief operating officer of the university and deputy to the chancellor in the overall academic leadership and administrative management of the university. The provost acts as the chief executive officer of the institution in the chancellor's absence. The Provost will speak to members of the Chemistry Department between 3:30 and 4:30 in Seminar Hall. This is a rare opportunity to see and hear another of the University’s “Prime Movers,” as we did when Chancellor Martin visited last year. Primary responsibilities of the Provost include: academic program planning involving twelve schools and colleges; faculty and staff development and personnel oversight; Dean of Students offices; budget planning and management; enrollment management; the Office for Equity and Diversity; the General Library System; information technology; diversity initiatives; outreach and extension programming; Office of Child Care and Family Resources, as well as collaboration with other vice chancellors in the areas of facilities planning and management, and law and policy administration. The provost works closely with the deans and with faculty, staff and student committees in the exercise of shared governance of the institution.
