Materials Engineering Laboratory
Job Description:
The CertainTeed Siding Products Group is offering a paid summer internship
with the materials engineering department at our research and development
center located near downtown Jackson, MI.
Responsibilities: Work directly with Senior Chemists and Engineers on projects to include:
 Development of plastic chemistries such as polyvinylchloride, polyurethane, and polypropylene
 Formulating, processing, and testing polymer based compounds for use in exterior applications
 Use of analytical chemistry instruments to perform FTIR spectroscopy, DSC, and TGA
 Design of experiments, data management, statistical analysis, and formal reporting
 General lab cleanliness and organizational responsibilities
Education/Experience:
 Must be at least 18 years of age
 Must be a High School Graduate and completed at least one year of college education
 Must have completed a basic Chemistry course with a laboratory requirement
 Must be currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year program at an accredited educational institution
 Must be pursuing a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field

 Hands-on and detail oriented
 Strong problem solving skills
 Good laboratory skills
 Good organizational skills
 Good verbal and written communication skills
 Ability to follow instructions
 Proficient with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint among others
 Ability to safely lift and carry 40 pounds
 Eagerness to work safely and gain valuable experience within a laboratory environment
 Willingness to work standard 40-hour weeks from May through August
