BIO 110: Introductory Biology I credit hours and description revision
BIO 111: Introductory Biology I Laboratory new course proposal
BIO 120: Introductory Biology II credit hours and description revision
BIO 121: Introductory Biology II Laboratory new course proposal
The biology representative described why the lecture and lab portions of the course are being
separated. Now, if a student fails one or the other of these course portions, the entire course
(lecture and lab) do not need to be repeated. This may also be helpful to students for financial
aid and probationary purposes (67% completion rate). We discussed the ramifications of this
for the course catalog and general education literature. There are also some minor changes to
the paperwork that need to occur.
Motion to approve BIO 110, 111, 120 and 121 as a package (Curran, Shen second); Motion
passed (5-0-0)
BIO 417: Conservation Biology new course proposal
Comment: Angell noted that the biology minor is not listed on the paperwork as a program that
includes this new course.
Motion to approve with comment (Curran, Dove second); Motion passed (5-0-0)

HPRS MS program revision
Our G&G representative explained to us the rationale of these course revisions and new
course proposals. Some courses disappeared out of the catalog, so those are being reimplemented. In addition, these courses reflect some recent new faculty hires. He also
discussed with us the GHPR 475 course for graduate students. It is still to be taken as a
prerequisite for graduate students (if they have not previously had the course), but is not to be
taken for graduate credit in the future. A lively discussion ensued regarding whether the
paperwork, as submitted, reflects the department’s intent in this regard. It was suggested that
the language in the paperwork be strengthened so the functions of this course are clear.
Motion to approve all GEOG and GHPR course revisions and new course proposals, along
with the HPRS MS program revision as a package (Curran, Shen second); Motion passed (50-0)
MATH 097: Pre-College Mathematical Concepts credit hour revision
Our Math representative discussed the rationale for the drop in credit hours for this course.
Ultimately, this revision will cut a semester out of the remedial math preparation courses.
Motion to approve (Curran, Ligibel second); Motion passed (5-0-0)
MATH 579: Probability and Statistics for Teachers new course proposal
MATH 585: Algebra for Middle and Secondary School Teachers new course proposal
These courses have been running for a couple of years as special topics teacher preparation
courses. These courses are designed for individuals who come back for an additional degree
in teacher education, and these courses will serve as needed background (that is currently
missing for most individuals).
Motion to approve these two courses as a package (Shen, Curran second); Motion passed (50-0)
