WPRO Dengue Situation Update, 12 January 2012
Data up to week ending 31 December 2011 (latest data variable by country)
Dengue activity has been relatively low and stable among the listed countries.
While Cambodia has reported more cases in 2011 than 2010 for the same time
period, dengue activity has been declining in Cambodia.

The table is based on the number of reported cases. Dengue reporting systems vary by country and
any change in the surveillance system over time is not reflected in the above figures. Number of
reported cases listed for 2010 and 2011 are for the same time period for each respective year.
Australia: 764 cases (0 deaths) 1 Jan to 31 Dec 2011; 1 201 cases (0 deaths)
reported for the same time period in 2010. Number of reported cases has remained
low but slightly increasing since September 2011.
Cambodia: 15 736 cases (72 deaths; CFR 0.45%) up to 6 Dec 2011 with
continuing decline in activity; 12 266 cases in 2010 for the same time period.
Lao PDR: 3 871 cases (7 deaths; CFR 0.18%) up to 27 Dec 2011; still low activity
when compared with the same time period in previous years: 22 912 cases in 2010
7 810 cases in 2009 and 4 328 cases in 2008.
Malaysia: 19 884 cases (36 deaths; CFR 0.18%) up to 31 Dec 2011
with
continuing low activity so far in 2011; 46 171 cases (134 deaths; CFR 0.29%) in
2010 for the same time period.
Philippines: 118 868 cases (639 deaths; CFR 0.54%) up to 31 Dec in 2011 with
increase in activity from June to Aug 2011. 173 033 cases in 2010 for the same
time period.
Singapore: 5 308 cases up to 31 Dec 2011 since the week ending 13 Aug the
weekly number of cases has been below the warning level. 5 330 cases reported in
2010 for the same time period.
Viet Nam: From 1 Jan to 30 November 2011, 63 618 cases and 59 deaths (CFR
0.09%). 87% of cases (55 565) and 97% of deaths (57) were from southern region
of Viet Nam. 109 304 cases and 84 deaths reported for the same time period in
2010.
