Title
DoIT Labs Printing Policy
1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to manage the expenses associated with increased printing generated by the migration
of course materials to an online format and authorize cost recovery.
2.0 Scope
The scope of this policy includes all EMU faculty, staff and students accessing printing resources within the DoIT
Computing Labs, affiliated academic computing labs, and print kiosks distributed across campus.
3.0 Policy
Faculty, staff and students enrolled in the current semester will be assigned a printing allotment as follows:
Undergraduate students registered in the current semester shall be granted an initial printing allotment of $25.
Graduate students registered in the current semester shall be granted an initial printing allotment of $45.
Faculty and staff shall be granted an initial printing allotment of $25.
The print allotment, though represented in dollars, holds no monetary value. Balances may not be rolled over to
future semesters, transferred to other users or exchanged for cash. As users print, their balance will be deducted per
page printed at a rate as follows:
Pages printed on a black and white laser printer will be charged at a rate of $0.05 per page.
Pages printed on a color laser printer will be charged at a rate of $0.20 per page.
When a student has consumed their printing allotment for the semester, they may opt to continue printing with the
charges for the additional printing assessed to their student account. They may agree to beyond quota printing by
performing the following steps:

Students should open a web browser to printing.emich.edu
Login to the website with their my.emich username and password
Click on the Beyond Quota Printing link on the left-hand side of the page
Read the statement displayed and click on the Accept button.
The account is now enabled to resume printing.
Only balances accrued in excess of $5.00 will be assessed.
4.0 Responsibility for Implementation
All account holders are responsible for using the account in accordance with the DoIT Labs Printing Policy.
The Director of Desktop and Classroom Technology is responsible for the implementation of this policy.

5.0 Enforcement
Any employee found to violate federal or State of Michigan laws, EMU policies, procedures or standards of
conduct, will be subject to disciplinary action under University policy. Any student found to violate federal or State
of Michigan laws, EMU policies, procedures or standards of conduct, will be subject to disciplinary action under
EMU’s Student Code of Conduct. Any suspected violation of state or federal laws will be reported to the appropriate
legal authority for investigation.
The University reserves the right to protect its electronic resources from threats of immediate harm. This may
include activities such as disconnecting an offending computer system from the campus network, terminating a
running job on a computer system, or taking other action.
