 Research proposal (4-5 pg.) including specific aims and a timeline
 Essay (1-2 pg.) describing your educational and career goals and indicating how the Research Award will help
you to achieve those goals
 Statement of relevant academic, work-related or service activities or current resume including this information
 A print out of your current EMU web transcript and web or unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate
degree
 A letter from the sponsoring Biology faculty member
 At least one letter in addition to the letter from the sponsoring Biology faculty member
 Additional letters of support/recommendation are encouraged
Submit the following materials for the Brown/Hellwig Special Study Awards:
 Essay (1-2 pg.) describing your educational and career goals and indicating how the Special Study Award will
help you to achieve those goals. Include in your essay information about your intended off-campus biology field
course
 Statement of relevant academic, work-related or service activities or current resume including this information
 A print out of your current EMU web transcript and web or unofficial transcripts from your undergraduate
degree
 One letter of recommendation
 For those planning a non-EMU course or international research experience, include a one-page summary of the
planned activity.
Application submission deadline is Monday, February 1, 2016 by hard copy to the Biology Office (441 Science;
8am-5pm Monday-Friday) or by email to Dr. Marianne Laporte (mlaporte@emich.edu)
