Call for Research Proposals Call The Equality Research Center at Eastern Michigan University is seeking proposals for its Equality Knowledge Project 2016-2017 Award Cycle. The Equality Knowledge Project generates new academic research (from all academic disciplines) focused on LGBT people, populations and communities. Faculty and doctoral students working at U.S. post-secondary institutions are eligible for and encouraged to submit proposals. The Equality Knowledge Project The Equality Knowledge Project is a research stimulus program of the Equality Research Center at Eastern Michigan University. The project provides mini-grants to support new LGBTQ research. It is comprised of three elements: -Research mini-grants to support academic research that is responsive to current issues and needs associated with LGBT equality. -An Equality Speaker Series of completed research projects presented on-campus at Eastern Michigan University -Publication of completed research reports in the Center’s Equality Research Reports, a catalogue of findings from Center supported research, hosted on the Center’s web site. Requirements We are seeking proposals for original research projects. Projects already underway may also be considered provided the research has not been previously published or disseminated. Proposals should identify the equality and/or social justice orientation of the research; benefits of the research; research method(s); and, potential impact of the project. Whenever appropriate, plans for Human Subjects or Internal Review Board Approvals should be described. Submissions will be judged on originality, significance, clarity, likelihood of completion in the designated time frame (between 6 and 12 months following the award), and relevance to the LGBT equality and human rights mission of the Center. The Center is especially interested in submissions that propose research in the following areas: -Safe and Inclusive Schools and Colleges (for students and/or staff) -LGBT Community health needs and access -LGBT Workplace equity and discrimination -The Needs of Aging LGBT populations -Transgender specific issues -LGBT Youth and Adult Homelessness -HIV Prevention, Treatment, and Criminalization -Impacts of “Religious Liberty” efforts and legislation -LGBT Civil Rights action Awards Proposals accepted for award will be presented as part of the Center’s Equality Speaker Series on campus at Eastern Michigan University. The Center will work with the awardee to determine a speaking date between October 2016 and April 2017. Accepted project authors will receive a $2,000 honorarium. 50% is awarded upon acceptance of the proposal. The other 50% is awarded following presentation of the research in the Speaker Series. A report of research findings or white paper must be submitted by May 1, 2017. Travel expenses associated with participation in the speaker series are not covered by the award. Submission Submissions should follow the following format: 1. Title Page including Author Name, Position, Institutional Affiliation, Contact Information and Working Title of the proposed research 2. A Proposal which includes the Working Title, rationale, LGBT equality and/or social justice orientation of the proposed research, benefits of the research, proposed method(s), and potential impact of the completed research. When appropriate, Human Subjects or Internal Review Board processes should be described. As we use a blind review process, the author identifying information should not appear in the proposal section of the submission. Proposal should not exceed 5 pages including the Title page. Proposals should be submitted electronically to the Equality Research Center at equality.emu@gmail.com. Include the words “Equality Knowledge Project Proposal” in the subject line. Proposals will be accepted in Adobe PDF format only. Proposals must be submitted no later than 5pm US Eastern time March 15, 2016. Proposals submitted after that time may not be reviewed.
