Call for Research Proposals
Call
The Equality Research Center at Eastern Michigan University is seeking proposals for its
Equality Knowledge Project 2016-2017 Award Cycle. The Equality Knowledge Project
generates new academic research (from all academic disciplines) focused on LGBT
people, populations and communities. Faculty and doctoral students working at U.S.
post-secondary institutions are eligible for and encouraged to submit proposals.
The Equality Knowledge Project
The Equality Knowledge Project is a research stimulus program of the Equality Research Center
at Eastern Michigan University. The project provides mini-grants to support new LGBTQ
research. It is comprised of three elements:
-Research mini-grants to support academic research that is responsive to current
issues and needs associated with LGBT equality.
-An Equality Speaker Series of completed research projects presented on-campus
at Eastern Michigan University
-Publication of completed research reports in the Center’s Equality Research
Reports, a catalogue of findings from Center supported research, hosted
on the Center’s web site.
Requirements
We are seeking proposals for original research projects. Projects already underway may also be
considered provided the research has not been previously published or disseminated. Proposals should
identify the equality and/or social justice orientation of the research; benefits of the research; research
method(s); and, potential impact of the project. Whenever appropriate, plans for Human Subjects or
Internal Review Board Approvals should be described. Submissions will be judged on originality,
significance, clarity, likelihood of completion in the designated time frame (between 6 and 12 months
following the award), and relevance to the LGBT equality and human rights mission of the Center.
The Center is especially interested in submissions that propose research in the following areas:
-Safe and Inclusive Schools and Colleges (for students and/or staff)
-LGBT Community health needs and access
-LGBT Workplace equity and discrimination
-The Needs of Aging LGBT populations
-Transgender specific issues
-LGBT Youth and Adult Homelessness
