Winter 2013 Course Email Lists! Faculty members who wish to communicate with the students registered in their courses have access to an email list that is created for each EMU course. The lists are available within EagleMail and contain the email addresses of all the students registered for a particular course. The lists are automatically updated as students drop or add the course and are available at the beginning of each term. To send a message to a course list, login to EagleMail and start a new message. In the TO: address field, type the address in the following format: CRN.TermCode@emich.edu. CRN is the course reference number which is usually a five-digit code assigned to each course. As you start typing the CRN, you will see the address as the system attempts to find the address you are typing in. CRNs may be reused from term to term, so the term code is attached to distinguish between terms. The term code is the Banner term code and consists of the academic year and semester code. The academic year begins in the Fall; however, the term code reflects the following year, for example, the term code for Fall 2012 is 201310. Subsequently, the term code for Winter 2013 is 201320. To send a message to the students registered in Technology Management 615 you would enter the CRN number, 26876, and select the section from the dropdown list. You will then see the course title in the TO: field. To send to the list for a specific section, you must be assigned as an instructor in Banner for the section (multiple faculty, GAs, or TAs), or registered students. Messages from others are automatically rejected. In addition, messages to the list must originate from your assigned EMU email address. Messages sent from Gmail, Yahoo or other third-party email systems are automatically rejected. Lists will be available at the beginning of each term and remain available for one full semester after their active semester, so that faculty can use them for post course communication after the course concludes. After the one semester delay, lists will be removed to minimize confusion caused by having multiple years of lists in the address book and to avoid technical limitations on the number of lists that can be created in the system.
