The BSW Program has Articulation

Field Education
All BSW students complete field placements
in an affiliated public or non-profit agencies
that are consistent with the School’s Mission.
All placements require 16 hours per week—
200 hours per semester for 400 hours total.
Placements start in fall or winter in the last
two semesters of the senior year.
Career Opportunities for
Social Workers can be found in varied
settings such as child welfare, mental health,
substance abuse, adoption, family services,
foster care, senior services, schools, rehabilitation, law enforcement, shelters and other
services to the poor, neighborhood centers,
and adolescent and youth services.

Students must complete 40 hours of volunteer
service, internship experience, or employment
within a human service setting. These hours
MUST be completed prior to the start of any

Restrictive Elective Courses
Students are required to take 6 credit hours in
cross cultural related courses. Completion of
both sections of General Education AREA III
(with the exception of ANTH 135) will meet
this requirement. Other courses outside of
AREA III may also count towards this
requirement with departmental permission.
(For students applying to the
SW major only)
Students must maintain an overall 2.3 GPA and a C or
higher grade in all social work courses to move forward into
field placement.
Social Work Minor: SWRK 120, SWRK 200,
SWRK 222 plus 11-12 credit hours of Social Work
elective courses—open to all EMU students.
