Date: October 27, 2015 To: Provisional Social Work Majors From: Professor Eileen Klein, Social Work Program Director Re: Application for Admission into the Social Work Program Dear Social Work Student: Any student who seeks formal acceptance into the Social Work Program at the junior level in the 2015-16 academic year must complete an application to the program. The application can be accessed on the Social Work Program website which is linked to the Social Work Major link on the college website. A copy of this letter and the application can be found under the heading “Important Documents.” The application should be completed as soon as possible, but no later than February 4, 2016, and returned to the Social Science office (ASB-431). Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received. If you have completed SWRK 225-Introduction to Social Work prior to this semester please enclose a copy of your fieldwork evaluation for that course. In order to be eligible for acceptance students must meet all of the following requirements prior to September 2016: 1) Completion of all 100 Level General Education Requirements including SOSC 101 Social Issues, SOCI 101 Introduction to Sociology, PSYC 101 Introduction to Psychology, BIOL 101 Introduction to Biology or Human Biology, ECON 102 Introduction to Macroeconomics or SWRK 202 Political Economy of Social Welfare, and SOCI 232 Sociology of the Family. 2) Completion of SWRK 222 History and Philosophy of Social Welfare and SWRK 225 Introduction to Social Work with a combined average grade of B or higher. 3) Completion of 60 academic credits. 4) A minimum Grade Point Average of 2.5. New transfer students who are missing program pre-requisites or who need clarification on transfer course equivalents should contact the program director, Eileen Klein (eklein1@ramapo.edu) or by phone at 201-6847165 prior to completing the application. Please be aware that an increasing number of social agencies and licensing bureaus are requiring child abuse screening, driving record and criminal background checks, and drug testing for internships and employment.
