Applying to the School of Nursing is a fourstep process: Step One: View the virtual information session online www.emich.edu/nursing Step Two: Apply for admission to Eastern Michigan University Step Three: Schedule an appointment with one of the following: If you do not have an undergraduate degree: contact the College of Health and Human Services Advising Center (734.487.0918) for an appointment to prepare for admission and receive guidance for application to the BSN program. You may also contact them by email: chhsadvising@emich.edu If you have an undergraduate degree and you have been fully admitted: contact the EMU second bachelor’s office (734.487.5497) to schedule an appointment. During the appointment transcripts will be reviewed and you will be given an unofficial program of study showing how previously earned credits MAY satisfy prerequisites for the School of Nursing. The program of study must be completed and submitted with the application to the School of Nursing. Step Four: Submit the School of Nursing application by the deadline of May 15th, 5pm each year. BSN Program Admission Requirements: Applicants are considered for selection into the BSN Program upon completion of the following preadmission courses and submission of official transcripts from all other colleges and universities. TOEFL scores are required if English is a second language (to meet university requirements). It is the responsibility of the applicant to assure that all materials have been submitted to the School of Nursing by the application deadline date (May 15th, 5pm). The application screening process used by the admissions committee will include the following elements: 1. Admission to EMU and EMU student number assigned. Application to the School of Nursing submitted by May 15th deadline. 2. Official transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended submitted by May 15th. 10-23-2015 3. Completion of all of the following pre-requisite courses (or approved equivalent courses) prior to May 15th with a grade of C or better and *combined GPA for the 8 pre-requisites courses of 3.0 on a 4 point scale: ANTH 135 or SOC 105 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology or Introduction to Sociology CHEM 120 ENGL 121 or waiver IHHS 260 or EDPS 325 Gen ED Math or waiver Fundamentals of Organic and Biochemistry English Composition (unless waived by ACT score) Aging to Infancy: A Life Course Retrospective Life Span Human Growth and Development General Education requirement (unless waived by ACT score) Please refer to General Education Program Requirements, Area 2, Quantitative Reasoning General Psychology course for 3-4 credits PSY 101 (3 cr.) and PSY 103 (1 cr.) If both are taken, this fulfills gen education requirement for natural science course. PSY101 is the requirement. Completion of the ATI-TEAS V examination. (The School of Nursing will administer this examination. Students will have to make arrangements for payment and time to take the examination through the School of Nursing office after the winter term begins each year.) In order to achieve points toward admission, the following scores in each category must be met: Reading 69% or better Math 63% or better Science 46% or better English 60% or better 5. Science GPA (Chemistry course and anatomy & physiology courses) Any science course transferred from other university or college must be a B or better If a science course is retaken either at EMU or any other university or college, the GPA is determined by averaging the grades for the first two times the course was taken. No grades for these three science courses over 10 years old are accepted. 6. Health care related work experience. Six months or more with documentation on business letterhead. Experiences meeting the criteria for this category are veterinary technician, patient care technician, patient care assistant, nursing assistant, medical assistant, certified nurse’s aide or mental health tech/worker. Volunteer hours will not be considered. 7. All or any Pre-requisite courses taken at EMU. Students are encouraged to take prerequisite courses at EMU; those students who do so will be given additional consideration for admission. 8. Math or English waiver with ACT/SAT/CLEP. Students who have waived the college Math or English requirement through ACT/SAT/CLEP will be given credit toward those courses. 10-23-2015 9. NURS 110 Introduction to Professional Nursing. Students who take NUR 110 at EMU will be given additional consideration for admission. Each application is carefully reviewed and assigned points based on the following criteria: Maximum Possible Points Calculated Pre-Requisite GPA multiplied by 75 300 Calculated Science GPA multiplied by 25 100 EMU Points (2 points for each credit hour of the 8-pre-requisite courses taken at EMU) 58 ATI TEAS Scores (5 points possible per category) 20 6 Months or More of Health Care Work Experience 15 Math or English Waiver (ACT/SAT/CLEP) (3 points for each waiver awarded if granted) (6) Successful completion of NURS 110 7 500 Total Possible Points: Criteria In early June, applicants will be notified of their admission into the BSN program which is conditional based on successful completion of a criminal background check, physical examination, and a drug screen. Students will be asked to submit an acceptance fee with their materials to guarantee their spot within the program. Failure to submit the acceptance fee may result in forfeiting the admission offer. Due to the high demand for seats in the School of Nursing, applicants may be notified as late as one week into the fall semester that they have been accepted. ATI-TEAS V Examination Schedule The ATI-TEAS V examination testing times are listed on the School of Nursing website www.emich.edu/chhs/nursing/future_students/teas.php . Registration is limited to 40 persons per session. Cost of the ATI-TEAS examination is $40.00. Individuals may contact ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute) at www.atitesting.com or call toll free at 1-800-667-7531 for review materials. Log on to the ATI website to create a new user account before the scheduled test date. On the day of the test bring a picture ID and a MasterCard or Visa credit card or a MasterCard or VISA debit card to pay the fee. No other form of payment will be accepted by ATI. Individuals planning to apply to the EMU School of Nursing will need to complete the ATI-TEAS examination. Applicants may retake the exam only once. The fee for a retake exam is also $40.00. Course Equivalencies: allow you to determine individual course equivalencies that can be used to determine what credit you will receive upon transferring to EMU. 2. Transfer Guides: allow you to obtain program by program listings of course equivalencies. 3. Articulation Agreements: are formal agreements between a community college curricular program and an EMU curricular program. Completing the courses outlined in the articulation agreement ensures a smooth transition to EMU. How to determine course equivalencies: 1. Go to http://ict.emich.edu/service/online/tranequiv/ 2. Pull down the menu that says “Choose School” and select the school for which you wish to view transfer equivalencies. 3. After the school is selected, click “Continue”. 4. Click the “Course Equivalency” link. 5. On the next screen select the subject you want from the drop down menu and enter the course number as well. Click on the “Look up EMU Course Equivalency” button. 6. Enter the subject code(s) and course number(s). To see all equivalencies for a particular subject area, leave the course number box empty. Click the “Look up EMU Course Equivalency” button to determine EMU equivalencies. 7. On your student bill, the general fee, technology fee, and student union fee are combined into one label called “Student Fees.” The School of Nursing has additional Program Fees that are $73.80 for every 300-499 level course; and course specific fees for every clinical course. For planning purposes, your first year books, uniform, stethoscope, pen light, BP cuff, immunizations, urine drug screens, physical examination, ATI program fees, and other fees may cost as much as an additional $2,000 that is not included in your tuition and mandatory fees listed on the university website. 10-23-2015
