Several members of the management department have been recognized for their work by the university and their peers: Dr. Donna Ledgerwood was selected as one of two recipients for the President’s Council Teaching Award. This prestigious award honors those committed to teaching excellence and service. Four members of the management faculty were award honors within the College of Business: Dr. Danielle Cooper has been selected as the 2011 Junior Outstanding Researcher. Dr. Derrick D’Souza (left) and Dr. Grant Miles (right) jointly were selected for the 2011 Innovative Teaching Award for their development and work with the Business Policy Case Competition! Dr. Warren Watson has been selected as the 2011 Senior Outstanding Researcher Each of these individuals will receive a contribution of $2,500 to a research account. Dr. Derrick D’Souza also won the “2011 Cutting Edge Research" award at the Academy of Human Resources Development International Conference, held in February, 2011. He coauthored a paper with Dr. Jessica Li from the Department of Learning Technologies and Dr. Yunfei Du from the Department of Library Sciences entitled, “The Promise of Virtual Worlds to Learning in Organizations.” The paper investigates the applicability of Virtual Worlds (VWs) in organizational learning interventions. Recognizing that organizational learning interventions occur at three levels within the organization, the paper develops a theoretical framework that relates VW capabilities to organizational learning outcomes at each level. Their research contributes to the field of organizational learning by synthesizing and integrating multiple theoretically anchored dimensions and by offering frameworks that will serve as building blocks for future research on virtual worlds in organizational learning interventions.
