Understand basic definitions of Semantic Object Modeling: Objects, SOLs, Cardinality
Study design aspects of a Budgeting and Spending (Cost Accounting) Data Mart & a Financial
Accounting Data Mart. Examples of star schemas in accounting and financial planning.
Become familiar with the Distributed/Enterprise Model approach to Data Warehouse design.
Study ways to justify a data warehouse project from the business point-of-view.
Learn what to expect with current and future trends in Data Warehousing and Data Mining.
Format and time constraints for Exam 2

90-100 multiple-choice questions, covering theory, concepts, SQL syntax, relational algebra, star
schemas, data transformation procedures, DW Enterprise Modeling, and the material of Homework
assignments 1-9. Closed books and notes. Final exam time is 110 minutes. 120 points. May include
BONUS questions.

Textbook, Handouts & ACCESS:
o Pratt & Adamski: Chapter 9; and Materials from Chapters 3, 4, 5, 6, which we have used
extensively in PP Case. Focus on SQL and Data Warehouses
o Jukic Handouts: Chapters 2, 7-8 (in handouts). Focus on ERDs, particularly the Chen Model
as illustrated with the ERDPlus Software, Data Warehouses and Data Mining, and SQL.
o Adamson & Venerable Handouts: Chapters 1, 2, 8, & 9; especially the lecture slides for
Adamson & Venerable study materials. Focus on Star Diagram Models and Techniques.
Handouts: PowerPoint presentations, especially those since the mid-term exam, basics of Semantic
Object modeling, ERD Plus
Homework problems (all): HW1, HW2, HW3, HW4, HW5, HW6, HW7, HW8, HW9
Practice Exam: This will be posted (or distributed) and contains 20+ multiple choice questions.
