Email Phishing Scams
Phishing is a type of scam using email that may appear to come from an official department or individual,
sometimes using an official agency banner or title, but is designed to steal your identity by enticing your
response with threats of account closure and other tricks to get you to take the bait. The emails may ask you
for personal data and account information, sometimes directing you to websites or giving you phone numbers
to call where they ask you to provide this information.
Common Email Phishing Phrases
Below is a list of common phrases used in phishing scams. If you receive an email with any of these phrases in
it, you may have received a phishing email from a hacker looking to hook your identity. Don’t take it personally
and don’t reply. That would be just what they want you to do.
Please verify your account.
If you don’t respond in 48 hours, your account will be closed.
