An overall GPA of 2.3 or higher. 2. Submission of an application. 3. Completion of 40 hrs of post-high school volunteer employment or internship experience at a human service agency. 4. Completion of introductory social work courses: SWRK 120, SWRK 200, SWRK 222, & SWRK 251 with grades of “C” or higher 5. Submission of a personal statement. 6. Meet with a BSW advisor to develop a Plan of Study and review progress to date Students may register in SWRK 120, 200, 222 and 251 at EMU while attending OCC in order to complete these courses before starting the professional sequence at EMU. Students receiving financial aid should contact the Financial Aid Office to ask about options for financial aid as a dual-registered student. In completing the coordinated program of study for this articulation agreement, course substitutions should be made with the guidance of the advisors (indicated below) at both institutions to assure that all requirements are satisfied. Each institution will determine the satisfaction of their individual program and degree requirements. OCC courses indicated with an *are required for EMU’s Social Work Program. 2. Students whose transcripts are endorsed as “MACRAO Satisfied” will only be required to satisfy three of EMU’s general education requirements, noted on the articulation guide and listed below. Students without the “MACRAO Satisfied” stamp on their community college transcript will be required to satisfy EMU’s general education requirements as listed in the Undergraduate Catalog. The MACRAO stamp may be completed after admission to EMU, however, students should inform advisors at EMU that they intend to complete MACRAO, or they may be advised to complete additional courses for the general education program. 3. Only courses with a grade of “C” or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) will be accepted for transfer to EMU. 4. Under this agreement, EMU will waive the 60-hour rule and require that a minimum of 51 credit hours (48 if SWRK 120 is transferred) must be completed at the four-year college level, of which 30 hours must be in courses offered by EMU, with 15 hours in program requirements, at the 300-level or above. Of the last 30 hours completed before graduating, at least 10 hours must be in courses offered by EMU. A minimum of 124 credit hours is required for graduation. Courses listed in this guide may be completed at the most opportune time for students, whether before or after admission to EMU, as long as appropriate pre-requisites are satisfied. 5. Eligibility for placement in the required two semesters of senior-year field placement includes: a) A cumulative GPA of 2.3 in all EMU courses (must be maintained through field placement), b) A minimum grade of “C” in each required SWRK course, completion of all required social work courses through the 300 level (including courses that fulfill EDPS 325 Life Span Human Growth & Dev and PSY 360 Abnormal Psych), c) A minimum of 40 hours (post high school) volunteer work, internship, or work-experience at a social welfare agency or organization that is documented by a reference letter from the supervisor of that experience. Oakland Community College internships may be used to satisfy this requirement. d) A written essay on the student’s interest in social work as a career. 6. Students must meet all admission requirements at the time of application for admission to EMU, including submitting transcripts from all previously attended colleges. OCC students will receive equal consideration with other students for course registration and financial aid. 7. Application to the Social Work program is completed while enrolled in SWRK 251. Students must see an advisor to enroll in 300/400 level social work courses. SWRK 120, 200, 251, and 222 are pre-requisites for all upper division SWRK courses and must be completed before starting the professional sequence. Students may enroll concurrently in these EMU courses at EMU’s main campus or at an off-campus site during the last two semesters of enrollment at OCC. 8. Students are encouraged to contact the Social Work Program Coordinator early, before applying to EMU. To facilitate the evaluation of transcript(s), students should indicate they are using this articulation guide when they apply to EMU and bring a copy of the articulation guide to all advising sessions. Copies of the articulation guide are available on EMU’s website at www.emich.edu/ccr/artguide.php Effective Dates: September 1, 2013 until August 31, 2016. This is a renewal of an agreement made in June 2008 and extended in September 2011. Students who began this program prior to the new effective date have the option of changing to this guide. If this agreement is not renewed at the end of the effective period, students who already started the program will be given an additional three years to be admitted to EMU under the terms of this agreement.
