Presentations guidelines/Suggestions/Rubrick
 Length/duration (this doesn’t affect your grade unless you are really off)
 Nominally 20 minutes per presentation
 Slides
 On average figure on 1 minute per slide. For a shorter presentation such as this
you might do more, but probably not more than 2/min.
 Not too much text on a slide
 If you are going to show tables, make sure they can be read by the audience
 Bullet points generally should not be full sentences
 Pace (this accounts for 20% of your grade)
 Not too fast, not too slow, practice really helps here
 Presentation style (this accounts for 30% of your grade)
 Don’t read directly from the slides
 Notes are OK, as long as they aren’t distracting to the audience (don’t read from
cards, palm, etc.)
 Try not to be too low energy or monotone
 Try for smooth transitions between speakers
 Content (this accounts for 50% of your grade)
 If we didn’t cover anything related to your topic in class then your presentation
might have to cover some basic info that otherwise wouldn’t be necessary
 It is expected that your presentation will be a bit more basic/superficial than
your paper
 Consider your audience, in this case your classmates
 Know what you are talking about
 If you use a term you don’t understand then you will probably be called
on it, which could be embarrassing.
 If you have words you are unsure of, ask me, it’s less embarrassing (to
you) than stumbling over it during your presentation.
