Standards Addressed - Math, Number Sense Properties and Operations MA.00.P11.02.03 - Match a quantity with a numeral MA.00.K11.03.03 - Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a ! ! written numeral 0-20. MA.00.K11.04.03 - Apply the relationship between numbers and quantities and ! ! ! connect counting to cardinality. MA.00.K11.05.03 - Count and represent objects to 20. Materials: • Pumpkin cut-outs or a craft kit similar to the one shown in Figure 1. • Two full sets of number cut-outs from 1-20 (see Pumpkin_numbers.pdf file) • Adhesive magnet strips (these can be purchased from a craft store like Michael's • Magnetic White Board • Dry Erase Markers Figure 1. Estimated Time: 15-30 Minutes Procedure: Note: This is designed to be a "fast" game for the students. The students will be competing as teams to match the correct number with the set of pumpkins you place on the board, so plan for a lot of noise and excitement during this lesson. • Split the class into two teams and have them line up on opposite sides of the room. • Have two desks place equally distant from each other (near each team) and from the white board • Spread out one set of numbers on each desk • Instruct the students that you will place a certain number of pumpkins on the board . One student from each team will come forward will have to count the pumpkins and choose the right number from those available on the desk.
