your storm water fees at work
October 2007
Background/History of the Project:
In an effort to improve water quality in your neighborhood,
Charlotte Storm Water Services (Storm Water), along with
consulting engineers, Baker Engineering, are looking for
opportunities to restore or enhance the stream channels that
comprise the Upper Stoney Creek Stream Restoration Project.
Progress Report:
Baker Engineering has finished collecting survey data in
your area and the project limits have been defined. They
are currently working on a planning study. This study will
provide information to Storm Water concerning the existing
conditions of the channels and opportunites for channel
enhancement and restoration.
Next Steps:
Once the planning study is complete and the restoration
opportunities are further defined, Baker Engineering will
work with Storm Water to choose a preferred alternative for
design.

DISPOSE OF WASTE PROPERLY....
AND NOT IN THE CREEK
How can yard waste cause problems in our creeks and streams?
Yard waste in the storm drainage system causes many problems for
our community. Often the cause of flooding or damage to the storm
drainage system is debris that has flowed downstream and blocked
culverts or pipes.
Due to its organic nature, yard waste is often dumped in creeks
or left on stream banks to decompose. The large load of organic
matter is often difficult to process by the aquatic community and
actually creates problems such as algae blooms, fish kills, and smelly
anaerobic decomposition.
Please do not use the storm drainage system as a trash bin

Use a compost bin to turn yard waste into a practical gardening
product
Take yard waste to the curb for collection
Chop limbs for fire wood for the winter
Discard Christmas trees properly
Never dump yard waste down storm drains or in creeks
