Notes:
Percentages are out of the total number of deaths for each column (i.e. Total, Natural, and Preventable).
Natural Deaths refer to deaths that are non injury-related (i.e. cancer, SIDS, Prematurity etc.).
Unintentional Injury deaths are comprised of Motor Vehicle Injuries and All Other Unintentional Injuries
such as fire, falls, accidental suffocation etc.
Intentional Injury is comprised of Homicides and Suicides.
SIDS deaths are included under the Natural deaths column because the cause is unknown, they are non-injury
related, and are not considered preventable.
Undetermined deaths were placed under the Preventable category instead of a stand alone column due to
small numbers when breaking out the data by subcategories. These will be separated out in the charts below.
There were 6 Undetermined deaths and 5 were infants and 1 was a child. All 5 Undetermined infant deaths
had risk factors for an unsafe sleep environment.
Other Non-Hispanic refers to individuals who are Non-White and Non-Hispanic but the exact race is not
specified in the death file.
The zip codes for the Geo-districts are as follows:

Notes:
Numbers in the columns may not add up to totals due to rounding.
*Deaths directly cause by or contributed by Child Abuse is a subset of all the causes listed above
and therefore these cases are included in the other categories. These cases are assigned to this
category by the Prevention subcommittee upon review of the case.
Undetermined cases are separate from the other death causes listed above. These deaths represent
cases in which the Medical Examiner was not able to rule out SIDS or Accidental Suffocation
based on a through examination of the death scene, review of the medical history, and the
autopsy.
Preventable Deaths are comprised of unintentional injuries and intentional injuries. The category
Other is used to denote cases in which the manner of death is known (i.e. Homicide, Suicide,
Accidental etc.) but the circumstances of the death are unknown or are not included on the list
among the most common types of injury deaths aside from Motor Vehicle Deaths that occur in
each category and do not occur in same frequency as the leading causes of injury death among
children.
