Marlwood s t o r m d r a i n a g e i m p r o v e m e n t p r o j e c t your storm water fees at work Dear Resident: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services held a public meeting on December 2 at the Cornerstone Baptist Church to discuss possible storm drainage improvements for the Marlwood Storm Drainage Improvement Project. Meeting highlights: • Project Manager Chad Nussman welcomed the attendees, introduced the project team and explained the meeting purpose. • Mr. Nussman explained the Marlwood and Waverly Ponds are being studied together to provide a holistic design solution. • Mr. Nussman discussed the options being reviewed for the proposed improvements including removing sediment in the Marlwood Forebay and in the upstream area of Marlwood Pond; increasing the size of the culverts downstream of the forebay as well as raising the road over the culverts; rehabilitating the dam where erosion has occurred; rebuilding the emergency spillway, and rehabilitating the outfall channel; and lowering the normal pool in order to increase storage • • • during storm events and aid in flood control downstream of the pond. The project is beginning the design phase which should take approximately one year to complete. The phases of the project were explained (Design, Real Estate, Bid and Construction). Easement Acquisition is the biggest schedule driver, the sooner all the easements are donated, the sooner construction will begin. If the City cannot get all the necessary easements, then the City will be unable to perform the work and preserve the pond. A question/answer session was held.
