Coulwood Stream Restoration Project March 2011 Dear Resident: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has identified a stream in your neighborhood for possible water quality improvements through stream restoration. The watershed drainage area for the project covers approximately 500 acres and is roughly bordered by Valleydale Road to the east, Mount Holly Road to the south, Tom Sadler to the west, and Gum Branch to the north. The project generally consists of the primary stream branch from the Colonial Pipeline Pond to the convergence with Gum Branch as shown on the map. Our stream restoration projects are chosen based on the degree of stream degradation and project feasibility. The following goals are the basis of our stream restoration projects: • Restore the stream to a more natural and functional state • Improve water and environmental quality • Protect the stream bank from further erosion • Generate mitigation credits for the City’s Stream and Wetland Mitigation Bank For more information about Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services and stream restoration, please review the literature included with this letter and visit the website at http://stormwater.charmeck.org. This project is in the final planning stages, but we would like to inform everyone in the immediate area of the project as you might see City staff, private consultants, and surveyors in the project vicinity. We will be holding a public meeting for the adjacent private property owners during the next few months to discuss how the project may affect you. You should receive a notice two weeks prior to the meeting. We aspire to make this project a success and have a positive influence on the surrounding area. If you have any other questions or concerns related to the project, please contact Project Manager David Baker at 704-432-5569 or email dtbaker@charlottenc.gov.
