6 th and Graham storm drainage improvement project YOUR STORM WATER FEES AT WORK Dear Resident, October 2013 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has hired a consultant, HDR to study and investigate possible improvements to the storm drainage system in the 6th and Graham Storm Drainage Improvement Project area. The project borders are I-77 to the northwest, 10th Street to the northeast, N. Tryon Street to the southeast and Trade Street to the southwest. This project is within a drainage area of approximately 200 acres. We will be analyzing the condition of the storm drainage system within the project area for potential improvements. Over the last couple of months, HDR has been modeling the storm drain system to determine how well it is working and to locate any problems. The next step will be to start analyzing possible alternatives for fixing the problems. Part of this analysis includes looking at what effects any changes will have on the downstream systems. HDR may need additional survey or utility information. HDR or one of their subcontractors Bio-Nomic Services (video drain pipes), or R. Joe. Harris & Associates (surveyors) may need to enter your property to collect survey data on the existing storm drainage system. While State law authorizes access to private property for this purpose, no buildings or structures will be entered or disturbed. If you have questions, please contact Project Manager Greg Cole at 704-336-4824 or gcole@charlottenc.gov. Engineering & Property Management Storm Water Services Division 600 East Fourth Street Charlotte, North Carolina 28202 Don’t wash your car on your driveway or in the street. Soap suds flow to the nearest storm drain, then directly into the nearest creek. That could kill fish and other aquatic life. Instead, park your car on your lawn to wash it. Or, better yet, take your car to a professional car wash where the water is cleaned. You’ll have a clean car and all of us will have clean streams. For more information visit stormwater.charmeck.org
