accompanying booklet is the culmination of a health promotion project completed in a rural
community. 100 copies were distributed free of charge.

Development of Wilfredo & Magdalena's Story: A New Life in Canada. (1995). These materials are
based on Paulo Friere's work and focus on family violence among Spanish-speaking people.
They are meant to be used to educate small groups about the nature of family violence in a nonthreatening and culturally sensitive manner and have been marketed and sold within North
America; 22 copies have been sold.

Funded by Alberta Multiculturalism Commission, Citizenship & Heritage Secretariat. Codeveloped with Jan Radtke. This video-tape production incorporated community development

of Rural Health, Ottawa
July 1 2007 December 2008 Focused on SSHRC research grant (Resiliency in Rural Settlements that have
experienced Wildfires: Implications for Disaster Management and
Mitigation), prepared publications, a book proposal and preparations for being
co-editor of the North American section of Rural and Remote Health. I also
prepared a proposal related to beliefs and practices regarding death and dying
among LGS Mennonite peoples; it was submitted to CIHR Fall 2008. Study
leave was interrupted by an extended sick leave due to trimalleolar fracture
(i.e., ankle and tibia) with complications (August 2007 – January 2008).
January 1 – June 30, 2012
Focused on Slave Lake study, prepared publications as well as a book
proposal, continued with ongoing research among the Low German-speaking
Mennonites (including conducting field work in Durango Colony, Mexico and
returning to Manitoba for dissemination of findings), received a CIHR grant
for a study on mental health among the LGS Mennonites and commenced
work on this grant and continued work on The Nature of Nursing in Rural and
Remote Canada II study.
