Topics/Subject Decisions/Conclusions/Actions Old Business None New Business 2011 Codes The effective date for the Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Fuel Gas codes is September 1, 2011 with a mandatory date of March 1, 2012. The effective date for the Energy and Residential codes is January 1, 2012 with a mandatory date of March 1, 2012. The 2011 Electrical code is on hold pending legislative action. Painting and carpet replacement. If only painting and carpet replacement are being done in a residence no permit is required even if the amount exceeds $5,000.00 in materials and labor. Rigid Foam behind tubs. Energy Classes Rigid foam is an air barrier in its self however the thermal barrier required in section 314.4 must still be provided. Energy classes for inspectors on the 2012 code will be offered in Charlotte in September, October and November. Dates and locations TBA A pier and curtain wall is not considered a structural wall and a double band or a designed girder is required to span from pier to pier. Code commentary illustrates a double ban from pier to pier as well. Pier and Curtain Wall Fire Separation Distance The distance measured from the face of the building to one of the following: 1) The closest interior lot line 2) The center line of a street, alley or public way 3) An imaginary line between two buildings on the lot. This definition will affect separation distances between buildings on the same lot like a house and a detached garage.
