CODE REFERENCE: Code Section Appendix A ANSWER: Deck bracing is not required for decks that are attached to the house and less than 4 feet (measured from the top of the footing to the top of the decking) above grade. Mecklenburg County will allow a free standing deck less than 30 inches (measured from the top of the footing to the top of the decking) above grade without bracing.
