When is bracing not required for a wood deck?

ANSWER:
Deck bracing is not required for decks that are attached to the house and less than 4 feet
(measured from the top of the footing to the top of the decking) above grade.
Mecklenburg County will allow a free standing deck less than 30 inches (measured from
the top of the footing to the top of the decking) above grade without bracing. Provided
the deck is bolted to the post.
