Mecklenburg County Commercial Building Interpretation Conference Rooms /Break Rooms Code: 2002 Building Code Date: 12-28-04 Section: 1004.1.4 Question: How do I figure conference rooms for the means of egress? Answer: In a Business Occupancy, where conference rooms and break rooms are used only by the personnel within the office tenant space It would seem appropriate to use an occupancy load factor of 100 square feet per person to determine the occupancy load of the entire space. In most instances, however, individuals from outside the tenant space also use conference rooms and break rooms. Because a conference room may be in use while the remainder of the office space is occupied, the occupancy load factor of 15 Square feet per person’ in conjunction with an occupant load factor of 100 square feet per person for the reminder of the area should be used.
