Primary schools’ competition 2013-14 Prizes donated by: The 2013-14 competition “Falling trees and biscuits” •The pupils made a device to prevent a biscuit breaking when it fell through the air. •The device was modelled on the structures that are attached to seeds, to slow down their falling to the ground. It was well thought through and sympathetically presented by the teacher. The Year 3-4 winner Tom Hudson, Burford School, Marlow The winning entry The judges said This showed very good and innovative design of devices, and the outcomes of the testing were successful. The Best overall entry Keira Hall, Pope Paul Primary School, Potter’s Bar The winning entry The judges said This was a clear, complete well illustrated entry from a single pupil. The links between the inventions and seed dispersal were evident throughout. Overall, an excellent write up. The Best Overall winner A teacher from, Pope Paul Primary School will tell us about Keira’s entry, and what the school is doing about practical science and D&T. The 2014-15 competition “If you build it, it will run??? ” The children will be asked to design and test a “car” made from a used plastic bottle. Details in the PST and on the CLEAPSS website.
