ENFORCING ONE’S RIGHTS UNDER EU LAW This is the first of a series of five annual publications by the Jean Monnet Chair of EU Law at the University of Malta. The theme chosen by the Chair holder, Professor Eugène Buttigieg, for this five-year project is ‘Rights and Remedies in an Integrated European Market’. Every year distinguished scholars will be invited to discuss topics related to this theme at the annual Rights and Remedies conference and the subsequent publication will contain a selection of the papers presented at this conference. The objective of this project which has financial support from the European Commission is two-fold: on the one hand to increase awareness and understanding of the judicial remedies and other means of redress available to the individual or company, at the national and EU level, for the enforcement of his/its EU rights; and on the other hand, to generate a discussion of the way in which Maltese authorities and EU institutions may enhance such protection of rights. This volume carries papers written by twelve of the distinguished speakers at the Rights and Remedies Conference 2010 covering the following topics: • the effect of EU law in the Maltese legal system – implications for the individual • effective remedies for the individual • public enforcement of EU law • judicial review and human rights protection • redress and assistance outside the courts ISBN:978-99957-0051-5 Rights and Remedies 2010 - ENFORCING ONE’S RIGHTS UNDER EU LAW - Eugène Buttigieg Rights and Remedies 2010 Rights and Remedies 2010 ENFORCING ONE’S RIGHTS UNDER EU LAW Edited by Eugène Buttigieg
