EPR in Mental health to support Care Pathways
Mark Fleming, Clinical Development Manager
Care Pathways & Clinical Information Systems, Ayrshire & Arran PCT, Room 89, Administration Block, Ayrshire Central Hospital
Abstract
Ayrshire and Arran Primary Care NHS Trust have been developing over the past 2 years
methods of collecting clinical information on an information system.
They have been using the integrated care pathways process of care delivery and monitoring to
develop a clinical information system which will follow the care process within the adult
mental health service.
The Trust is working very closely with Intermation Ltd (Nottingham) to develop the FACE
(functional analysis of care environment) software.
At present there are 4 components to the software which support the development team in
implementing this move towards an electronic patient record for mental heath.
System administration allows the administrator to tailor the system and set up its required
security and access features
Profiler allows clinicians to record information on:
•
patient demographics
•
service involvements
•
care pathways
•
clinical assessments using outcome measurement tools
•
activity recording
Facilities to create care plans and record care in relation to these pans is currently being
developed and will be available soon in the software.
Outcomes explorer allows the clinicians to create clinical outcomes reports to be used for
individual care management. There is also the functionality to create outcomes for populations
and a profile view of population needs.
All the answer reporting allows clinicians to view information in a more complex statistical
fashion where required.
There have been in the implementation of this new method of working and recording clinical
information been many change management issues. This talk will explore some of these key
issues identified below and explain how the project team have tackled them:
•
hardware availability
•
networking
•
clinicians’ IT skills
•
using clinical assessments
•
reluctance to change
•
access of information across the trust
During the talk the project manager will also demonstrate the clinical use of the software and
create reports, which could be used for clinical governance reporting.
