Narrative: On October 12, 2001 residents heard an argument outside their rooms at the Brookwood Inn located
at 1200 Sugar Creek Rd. When one resident stepped outside his room door, he saw two of the victims who
were brothers standing in the breezeway drinking a beer. As soon as the witness stepped out to see the
victims, the suspect Tomas Benagas began firing a handgun. The witness was shot in the back and retreated
to his room. The other two victims, Valentino Vazquez Garcia and Abel Garcia Cruz, were shot where they
stood and were pronounced deceased at the scene. There are two warrants for murder for the suspect and one
other warrant for Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill.
