PhD Studentship: Personalised predictive modelling and control of blood glucose dynamics School of Engineering, University of Warwick University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Application deadline: Open, subject to the position being filled Start date: 3 October 2016*, *flexible Duration: 3 years Are you keen on a project that combines both theoretical and experimental research elements? Interested in biomedical engineering, systems biology or system medicine? This might be the project for you. The project: This is a joint venture between the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick and the Human Metabolic Research Unit at the University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire. It will provide a unique opportunity to apply research through the full-lifecycle of mathematical modelling; experimental design, datadriven systems modelling using Machine Learning approaches; system validation via experimentation in a stateof-the-art metabolic research unit; ultimately leading to simulation and prediction applied in the health care setting to long-term health management of Diabetes Mellitus. Eligibility: UK or EU candidates with a 1st or 2.1 UK Honours degree in either of the subjects: Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Systems Biology will find this studentship especially relevant. Applications from candidates with medical science background who are interested in time series analysis and predictive modelling are welcome too. Excellent data analysis and computing skills are essential (e.g. programming Java/C/C#, MATLAB, Berkley Madonna) as well as an ability to work in a clinical environment, liaising with a range of healthcare professionals and patients is a must as a significant amount of time will be spent in the research facility at the UHCW. We are looking for confident, self-motivated candidates with good interpersonal skills, and abilities to perform excellent research leading to high quality research outcomes and publications. Funding: The studentship covers 100% fees (UK/EU students only) and standard stipend (£14,656*, *estimated over 3 yrs). International candidates are welcome to apply, but we will have to seek alternative funding sources.
