Proceedings of International Business and Social Sciences and Research Conference 16 - 17 December 2013, Hotel Mariiott Casamagna, Cancun, Mexico, ISBN: 978-1-922069-38-2 Labor Force with Higher Education and Productivity in Ageing Society: Evidence from Japan Keiji Hashimoto The relationship between labor force ageing and its productivity, taking account of their education attainments is empirically investigated. Two questions under investigation are: (1) Are older workers (aged 55 or over) less productive than younger workers (aged under 55)? and (2) is the university ‘premium’ in the productivity performance higher for younger workers than for older workers? Using Japanese all 47 prefecture panel data (1997-2007, quinquennial), we got the estimating results that are the opposite to the case of pervious study on the effects of older workers with higher education. That is, older workers are less productive than younger workers, but the university ‘premium’ is higher for older workers than for younger workers.
