Proceedings of 5th Asia-Pacific Business Research Conference 17 - 18 February, 2014, Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ISBN: 978-1-922069-44-3 The Linkage Study on Perceptions to Global Manager’s Characteristics and Expatriate Area in Taiwan Kuo-Kuang Huang Since 1990, Mainland China have been in big progressive in economy development. Taiwan government’s conservation policy prohibited Taiwan-based enterprises from gaining first mover advantages in the Mainland China market. This event takes out Taiwan based enterprises’ opportunity to be more globalized. Therefore, limited by the less globalized enterprises, young generation’s perceptions about being a qualified and competitive global manager become kinds of critical challenge. Mansour Javidan & Mary B. Teagarden (2011) issued one article in the book, ‘Advances in Global Leadership’. They thought a competitive global enterprise of manger should be composed by 35 characteristics. This study applies these characteristics as a questionnaire for surveying 400 junior and senior students at the International Trade Department of the Chihlee Insitute of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan. In addition, this study extend this survey to detect these samples’ preference to expatriate areas, Africa, Europe, etc. This study tries to collect the two kinds of primary data, percept global manager’s characteristics, and preferred expatriate area for finding the linkages. Coefficient Analysis is applied. This study intends to find out whether similar characteristics of group would prefer the same expatriate area. What would be the difference and similarity among the interviewee who prefer the same expatriate area? This study indicates that Taiwan’s young generations are attracted more by working in the North America. However, some adventure oriented interviewee did not choose Africa as their preferred expatriate place. This fact brings more interests to this study. _________________________________________________ Dr. Kuo-Kuang Huang, Name of Department: International Trade Department, Chihlee Institute of Technology, Mailing address: 313, Sec.1, Wen-Hua Rd., Ban-Chiao District, New Taipei City, Taiwan, Email address: kuohuang@mail.chihlee.edu.tw
