Tasks Required during a BAR Visit to an Enhanced Smog Station
OBJECTIVE:
Upon completion of this course you should be able to perform each of the following tasks
to the satisfaction of a BAR inspector during an audit of your shop.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
1. DSO
2. EIS Smog Machine
3. Engine Analyzer
4. Mitchell on Demand or the Equivalent
5. DVOM
6. Scanner with Appropriate Software
7. Fender Covers
PROTECTIVE CLOTHING:
1. Eye protection

TASKS
1. Access vehicle information using Mitchell on Demand or the equivalent
2. Perform a complete enhanced smog inspection using a BAR 97 smog
machine.
3. Diagnose vehicle in # 2 if it fails the smog inspection.
4. Using a DSO hook up an O2 sensor, determine its biased condition,
freeze waveform, record rise time.
5. Hook up an engine analyzer and record the firing voltage and burn time
for a spark plug.
6. Perform a voltage drop on the negative battery cable.
7. Hook up a scanner and extract DTC.
