Title:
ASTAP activities on ICT&CC
ASTAP(APT STAndardization Program) established a new Working Group on ICTs and Climate
Change to handle the global issue in a view point of the Asia Pacific region at a meeting held in
Macao, China, 24-28 August 2009. The objectives of this WG on ICT&CC are to exchange
information on experiences and study issues on the ICT&CC among member countries in the Asia
Pacific region, to identify the regional interests of the APT members, and to study how to reflect
them to international SDOs in relation to the ICT&CC.
The 1st meeting of ICT&CC Working group ASTAP was held in Pattaya, Thailand, 5-7 July 2010.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Sam Young CHUNG, Chairman of the ICT&CC WG, with 24
participants from 8 APT member countries.
The objectives of ASTAP ICT&CC are
- To exchange information on experience and study issues on the ICTs & Climate change in each
country in the Asia Pacific region.
- To identify the regional interest of the APT members and study how to reflect it to the
international SDOs related to ICTs and Climate Change.
The expected outputs are
1. Follow up standardization activities on ICTs and Climate Change
2. Develop status reports on standardization of ICTs and Climate Change
3. Develop the proposal of relevant workshop on ICTs and Climate Change if necessary.
This contribution tells the main results of the first meeting and the next meeting activities.

1 Developing a white paper about ICTs and Climate Change
ASTAP ICT&CC working group decided to develop a white paper in order to share useful
information on standardization and national effort on ICTs and Climate Change. ASTAP is
important organization having the role of diminishing a gap between developed and developing
countries. The white paper is expected to help to the APT member countries to find current gaps
and learn activities from other nations and other bodies.
The white paper will contain these items like below.
- Importance of the role of ICTs in countering Climate Change
- Related national policies and plans
- Related international activities
- Activities in SDOs
- Activities in non-standard bodies
- Case Studies of both public and private sectors
ASTAP ICT&CC working group plans to publish the white paper at ASTAP 19 in 2011. The white
paper will be a good guide to APT member countries when they seek to best ways against Climate
Change.
2 Collecting information from APT member countries on ICTs and Climate Change
ASTAP ICT&CC working group made questionnaire to get detail data from APT member countries
on ICTs and Climate Change. The information will be used for developing the white paper. The
term of questionnaire is by 15th October 2010.

3 Industry workshop on ICTs and Climate Change
ASTAP meeting has a special session in the middle of conference days, which is the industry
workshop. The industry workshop is to listen to the industrial aspect and status about particular
issues (eg. IPTV, Could computing were introduced at the last ASTAP 17.) The purpose of the
industry workshop is to strengthen the relations with industries and promote the participation of
industries. ASTAP ICT&CC working group expects to boost the interest of APT member countries
including industry through this industry workshop.
