Proceedings of 30th International Business Research Conference 20 - 22 April 2015, Flora Grand Hotel, Dubai, UAE, ISBN: 978-1-922069-74-0 The Effect of Education and Training on Individuals’ Competency at Work Shaikhah Alainati, Sarmad N. AlShawi, Wafi Al-Karaghouli and Mohammad Bouarki This paper examines the effect of education and training on individual’s competency (IC) in the workplace. Previous studies have been inconclusive about the effect. Using extant literature to determine the research problem, hypotheses were set up and tested inferentially. We found that there is indeed a positive relationship between education and training (prior and on-job) on individual’s competency. In the context of knowledge management, these findings are important theoretically and practically for employers to determine appropriate training and education strategies.
