Corporate Sectors in Bangladesh: A Malmquist Output Productivity

Index Approach

This thesis extends research and existing literature in the field in several ways: firstly, this study estimates Malmquist productivity change index for the corporate sectors in Bangladesh, in addition to estimating Malmquist productivity change index, the reasons of productivity change: whether technical efficiency change or technical progress change are also investigated and reported in order to improve the productivity. Moreover, a relationship study is conducted in order to check whether the Malmquist productivity change index and/or its component are correlated with the traditional measures of the corporate performance to whether they presents the same thing. The study suggests using Malmquist productivity change index as a proxy of corporate performance when checking the dependence of performance on leverage and leverage on performance. Finally, the study ends with the suggestions for the managers for the productivity improvements.
