Proceedings of Annual Tokyo Business Research Conference 15 - 16 December 2014, Waseda University, Tokyo, japan, ISBN: 978-1-922069-67-2 Positive Affectivity, Social Support and Work-Family Enrichment Ying-Jung Yvonne Yeh* and Su-Ying Pan The authors examine (a) the causal relationship between positive affectivity and social (i.e., supervisor and family) support, which are treated as work-family enrichment (WFE) and family work enrichment (FWE) antecedents, and (b) the relative importance of supervisor and family support in mediating relationships between positive affectivity and WFE/FWE. Structural equation modeling was used to test six hypotheses, using data collected from 416 full-time Taiwanese workers. Positive affectivity was found to be a relatively efficient predictor of WFE and FWE. Direct effects did not change when two mediators were added to the model. We also found that both supervisor and family support mediated relationships between positive affectivity and FWE, with family support having a stronger correlation with FWE. Contrary to our prediction, supervisor support mediated the relationship between positive affectivity and WFE, but family support did not. Our results underscore the asymmetrical balance between work and family. Research suggestions and managerial implications are discussed.
