Address Verification
An address verification form is required when submitting into the Plan Review or Permitting
system.
The primary reason for this form is to correctly identify the address where the work is being
performed. It is necessary for the inspectors in the field inspecting and for the issuance of the
Certificate of Occupancy. The ability to place a permit on the correct address is imperative to
avoiding problems during the plan review, permitting, and inspection process.
Placing the project on the correct address also serves as an accurate record of all work performed
on a site. This historical record is a useful tool for future construction.
In certain limited circumstances, it is not possible to provide a permanent address at the time of
the submittal of the OnSchedule application. In these instances, it is possible to work with
Addressing to create a temporary address in order to begin the process. The temporary address
will be used only during the plan review process. It is necessary for the customer to establish
permanent addresses prior to permitting. It is also necessary for the customer to have a site plan
that shows the major layout of the site for either temporary or permanent address issuance. Our
policy is to allow 1 (one) temporary per project site which may be used to schedule plan review
for multiple buildings or permits. A hold will be placed on the temporary address to prevent a
permit from being issued until full site plan approval is granted by the appropriate authority.
Type of Projects eligible for temporary address:
• Projects that require Multi-Family approval
• Projects that require Subdivision approval
• Projects that require Planning approval
There are three ways to obtain an address verification form:
• In person at the addressing counter
• By fax
• Online
To obtain an address verification form in person, please go to the Addressing Counter, located in
the 1st floor lobby, 700 N Tryon Street. For new construction, please provide a site plan showing
the location of the structure(s) on the site.
To obtain an address verification form by fax, please fax a request to 704-336-7333. This is for
pre-existing structures only. The request must include: your contact information (name, phone
number, fax number), the first sheet of the OnSchedule application. Requests are normally
processed within 24 hours from receipt of the paperwork.
