CIVIL PROCEDURE II (Section II) SPRING 2016 First Weeks’ Assignments Professor Larry Dessem Welcome back! Our first Civil Procedure II class will be Friday, January 15, from noon to 1:00 in Room 5. Although we normally will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays, this particular Friday has been designated a “Legislative Monday” – on which all Monday courses (and only Monday courses) will meet (rather than on Martin Luther King Day). The assignment for this class is Chapter 15 of our electronic text, concerning appeals, which will be posted on the class TWEN website for our course. Your reading this semester includes (1) material that I will post on the TWEN course site and (2) Benjamin Spencer’s Federal Civil Rules Supplement: 2015-2016 (the same supplement that we used in last semester’s Civil Procedure I course). When the text refers to Rules from the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure or statutes from Title 28 (the title of the United States Code concerning federal judicial procedures and the federal courts), check these in the Federal Civil Rules Supplement. Remember, also, that new amendments to some of the Rules became effective on December 1. The newest versions of the Rules are indicated in the Supplement. Our second class of the semester will be from noon to 1:50 on Wednesday, January 20 (at our regularly-scheduled course meeting time). After an initial quiz on the material from the first class, on the 20th we will begin Chapter 8 (Remedies) concerning provisional relief and damages. Please read sections I, II, and III of Chapter 8 for that class. While I expect students to attend each class, if for any reason you cannot be present (or will not be prepared to participate) please complete and submit to me the motion for extension of time that is posted on the course TWEN site. See you on the 15th in Room 5!
