They are not actual committees or individuals with administrative or oversight responsibilities. • The remaining layers of the chart identify where the existing ATIS committees fall in the functional structure. • PEG (Protection Engineers Group) is not included on this chart as it meets only once annually for an information exchange meeting, rather than for developing technical standards. • It is intended that the structure presented on this chart will be dynamic and will grow and change over time as work flows through ATIS. ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF) Mission Statement: The IIF enables the interoperability, interconnection, and implementation of IPTV systems/services by developing ATIS standards and facilitating related technical activities. This forum places an emphasis on North American and ATIS Member Company needs in coordination with other regional and international standards development organizations. ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IPTV Interoperability Forum (IIF) The scope of the work in the IIF includes the following areas: o Coordinate standards activities that relate to IPTV technologies. This includes providing a liaison function between the various Standards Development Organizations (SDOs) and Industry Forums that are each working on important components of IPTV, but may not have visibility to other aspects of the application. o Develop interoperability agreements, technical reports, or other types of ATIS standards where appropriate. o Provide a venue for interoperability activities. o Provide a venue for the assessment of IPTV issues in the context of NGN directions ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IIF Goals Long-Term: to fully specify all appropriate interfaces in the IPTV architecture, and to identify and specify metrics that are appropriate to measure the quality of IPTV service across those interfaces. Near-Term: Work from Top-Down: 1. Develop Architecture Requirements and Reference Model 2. Address Interoperability issues in Content Security (DRM) 3. Identify QoS Measurement Points, Metrics and Methods o o Organized in Task Forces aligned with near-term goals Issue Oriented – can take on new issues ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IIF Leadership o IIF Convener: Kevin Schneider, ADTRAN (Term expires March 2006) o Architecture Taskforce (ARCH) Co-chairs o o o o • Dipan Patel, Accenture • Steven Wright, BellSouth Digital Rights Management Taskforce (DRM) Co-Chairs • Mike Fargano, Qwest • Andre Jacobs, Widevine Quality of Service Metrics (QoSM) Taskforce Co-Chairs • Vandana Upadhyay, Symmetricom • John Williams, JDSU/Acterna Technical Advisor • Dan O’Callaghan, Verizon Testing and Interoperability (T&I) Taskforce Co-Chairs – Open ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IIF – Architecture Group o Active Issue Statements • IIF-Issue-002 Requirements & Roadmap — Issue accepted Sept 14, 2005 — Target Resolution date March 30, 2006 — IIF-WT-010 in progress • IIF-Issue-005 Packet Loss Issue — Issue Accepted Oct 25th, 2005 — IIF-WT-009 in progress • IIF-Issue-003 Definition of reference Architecture — Issue accepted Sept 14, 2005 — Target Resolution date September 30, 2006 — WT Not started – pending Requirements & Roadmap document ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IIF – Digital Rights Management Task Force o Active Issue Statements • IIF-Issue-001 DRM Requirements —Issue accepted Sept 14, 2005 —Target Resolution date March 31, 2006 —IIF-WT-008 in progress ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 IIF – Quality of Service Metrics Task Force o Active Issue Statements • IIF-Issue-004 Quality of Service Metrics —Issue accepted Sept 14, 2005 —Target Resolution date September 30, 2006 —IIF-WT-004 QoSM Network in progress —IIF-WT-005 QoSM V-Model in progress ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 Current Meeting Schedule o First IIF face to face meetings: • September 13-14, 2005, Washington, D.C. • October 25-27, 2005, Las Vegas NV o Quarterly face-to-face meetings in 2006: • January 17-19, Orlando FLA • March 21-23, Las Vegas, NV • July 18-20, location TBD • October 10-12, location TBD, — Possible co-location with NIPP, OPTXS, PTSC, and PRQC o Task Forces meet biweekly via virtual meetings ITU-T ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 Participating Companies Include: Accenture Alcatel Bell Canada British Telecom Coaxsy Entrisphere Intelsat Hewlett Packard Leapstone Systems Myrio/Siemens Nielsen Qwest Scientific Atlanta TDS Telecom Tellabs UTStarcom Widevine ITU-T ADTRAN AMDOCS BellSouth Cingular Wireless Digital Fountain Ericsson Iowa Network Systems JDSU Lucent NDS Nortel Real Communications Sun Microsystems Telchemy Thomson Verizon Agilent AT&T Big Band CISCO ECI Telecom Ineo Quest ipdr.org Juniper Microsoft Neustar Optical Solutions (Calix) Rogers Wireless Symmetricom Telcordia Trendium Westell ITU-T / ATIS Workshop “Next Generation Technology and Standardization“ Las Vegas, 19-20 March 2006 (backup) IPTV Context o IPTV SERVICE DEFINITIONS CONSIDERED • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Linear/Broadcast TV Linear Broadcast with Trick Modes PPV Video/TV On Demand (VOD) Interactive TV (iTV) Download Based Video Content Distribution Services.
