July 8, 2003 (Mr SANTITORO) Title: Network service classes for deploying QoS-enabled services Abstract: Configuring routers and networking equipment requires a great deal of expertise gained through training and implementation experience. Very frequently, the networking terminology is neither intuitive nor obvious and requires further research into product documentation or Internet standards before even basic configuration can be accomplished. The DiffServ architecture provides a toolbox of QoS technologies that can be used to create QoS-enabled services. However, unless one understands the relevant IP and Link Layer QoS technologies, it is difficult for the service provider or Enterprise to construct a QoS-enabled service. This presentation illustrates how network service classes, similar to those in ITU-T Rec. Y.1541, can be used to simplify the deployment of end-to-end QoS-enabled services.
