Fiber-to-the-Home in the U.S.A. – Who is installing it and how? Dr. Bernhard Deutsch, Chairman Architecture & Technology Committee, FTTH Council Biography This report has been provided by the Architecture & Technology Committee of the Fiberto-the-Home Council. Founded in 2001 the FTTH Council is a non-profit organization comprising of telecommunications, computing, networking, applications, content and service provider companies. Its mission is to educate, promote, and accelerate FTTH and the resulting quality-of-life enhancements. It currently has more than 80 members. The Architecture & Technology Committee resulted from the merger of the Architecture & Economics with the Technology Committee at the end of 2003 and has approximately 65 participants. Further information about the FTTH Council can be found at www.ftthcouncil.org. The presenter Dr. Bernhard Deutsch is the Chairman of the Architecture & Technology Committee of the FTTH Council. He also served as Chairman of Sessions at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in 2002 and 2003 as well as the German Chief Delegate to IEC SC86C, Fibre Optic Systems and Active Devices between 1996 and 2002. Dr. Deutsch has a Ph.D. in Optical Communications and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, both from University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. He is the author or co-author of four books and more than 10 national and international publications in communications. He holds more than 15 patents in the communications field. Dr. Deutsch is Director of Market Development, Public Networks for Corning Cable Systems LLC in Hickory, NC with the emerging market requirements for Access network markets as a main responsibility. Before this, he held various management positions for Corning Cable Systems and Siemens in Munich, Germany.
