Graduate Student Summer International Internship Program Application Instructions and Checklist Please note: Students who wish to apply for an internship position through a SIS Summer Abroad Program (seminar plus internship) must do so through the specific Program website and application. Some positions are available only through the SIS Summer Abroad Programs; see position descriptions for details. N.B. Priority for these positions will be given to students who also participate in the seminar. This application is only for students seeking an internship abroad through the SIS Office of International Programs. Theses internships can be registered for credit or not for credit, and must be used to fulfill the MA Professional Experience Requirement. Applying to a SIS Summer Internship is a two-step process. This application is for the first stage, which is the selection of the School’s nominees for specific internships. Additional application materials may be necessary for the second stage, which is the student application to the internship host. Instructions: 1. Visit the internship host’s website and/or download any pertinent information provide on the SIS Summer Abroad Internship website. 2. Meet with your academic advisor to gain approval for your participation in your chosen internship 3. If registering the internship for credit, choose an internship supervisor from the SIS faculty and discuss his/her availability to supervise the academic component of your internship (some internships will have a supervisor already chosen, see positions for details). Please note that incomplete applications will NOT be accepted. Unofficial transcript from myau.american.edu □ Academic Advisor Approval Form (Submitted via e-mail or to mailbox in SIS 116) General Instructions for a Cover Letter: In approximately one page, highlight your background, accomplishments, and professional goals, and describe both how you can contribute to the specific internship position and what skills/knowledge you would like to gain from it. Use this opportunity to emphasize the special qualities and accomplishments that will make you stand out as an applicant.
