Peking University (PKU) is a student-oriented research university where individual responsibility and independence are fundamental to the education we offer. We strive to create an environment where not only Chinese but also international students and staff feel at home. Since its establishment in 1898 as the first national comprehensive institution of higher learning ever founded in China, PKU has been regarded as a symbol of modern Chinese education. With our democratic administration laying great emphasis on academic freedom and scientific research, we have proudly produced a great number of scholars in various areas of concentration and specialty. The student body, faculty, and alumni have made significant research achievements and generated an incredible number of works of scholarship in both the arts and the sciences. Internationalization is an important process in higher education. Spending time abroad enriches the lives of our students and staff.
