“ I think the most beneficial part of the Youth Apprenticeship
program is the work experience. Employers are looking
for well-rounded individuals, with a good education, but
impressive work experience would help a lot too. It is an
awesome opportunity to get to work and get a feel for the
job and start your post-secondary education, all before you
graduate high school.”

Get to work with
Youth Apprenticeship
The Youth Apprenticeship program
offers students like you the
opportunity to explore future careers while
still in high school and get paid for your time
working at area employers. With one- and
two-year programs that start when you’re a
high school junior or senior, you can
experience careers in fields like Agriculture,
Arts/AV & Communication, Architecture &
Construction, Health Science, Finance,
Hospitality & Culinary, Information
Technology, STEM, Manufacturing and
Transportation/Distribution & Logistics.
Expand your career options
During your Youth Apprenticeship you’ll receive
occupational related instruction and on-the-job
training as part of your high school schedule. You
will also graduate with a state skills certificate and
career-related work experience. The program
prepares you for a number of career options such
as entering the workforce or attending a technical
college or university.
“ The opportunity I received through Youth Apprenticeship
allowed me to get a preview of the healthcare system and
has acted as a stepping stone to the journey I want to take to
become a nurse practitioner in endocrinology.”

Build your job skills
“ The maintenance organization at Kohler Co. views Youth
Apprenticeship as an opportunity to positively impact the
local talent pool of skilled labor. This is the same pool of
talent that this organization relies upon. It is gratifying to see
these young people grow in maturity and skill during their
time in the program.”
Robert, Kohler Company Welding and Fabrication Mentor
Spend part of the school day learning a skill
and exploring a great career while earning money
and credits toward high school graduation. Youth
Apprenticeship grants students the
opportunity to work alongside adults in a
professional setting, and learn skills they cannot
learn in a classroom. They also add career-related
work experience to their resume. With oversight by
a company mentor, students develop the same job
skills and have similar responsibilities as other
employees in that career.
Become a Youth Apprentice
If you’ll be a high school junior or senior next year,
you’re eligible to apply for Youth Apprenticeship. If
selected for an interview and offered a position
you will enroll in Youth Apprenticeship related
classes and be available for 10 - 20 hours of
work per week during the school year. You
must also maintain good grades in school, work
for at least 450 hours in a year, achieve
required work skills and meet high school
graduation requirements in order to complete the
program.
