How to find a chemical
- The chemical inventory list is accessible on the right Mac in room 411
- To open list ˈgoˈ to ˈapplications
applicationsˈ → ˈFileMaker pro 10ˈ and open the file ˈchemical

- Choose ˈGuest Accountˈ and click ˈokˈ; you should see the following window
show all entries
switch to find
mode
click here to sort
entries by ˈLocationˈ
- when you open the program usually you see only a few chemicals, if you want to see all click on the
icon ˈshow all entriesˈ
- to sort the entries click on the corresponding field
- to switch to the find mode, press ˈ⌘ˈ and ˈfˈ or click on the magnifying glass
- now type what you are looking for in the corresponding field
• using the CAS number or sum formula is better than using the name (chemicals could have
different names)
• it is not necessary to type the whole sum formula or CAS number. e.g. ˈC6H5ˈ will give
a list of all compounds containing C6H5; ˈ*Ru*ˈ will
ll give you a list of all

are
obtained
no
matter where the Ru appears in the formula (beginning. middle, or end;
end eg: Cl3Ru, C16H26Ru)
• it doesn’t matter if you use capital or small letters, *rU* would give you the same result
- once you found the wanted chemical the list shows where to find it
• if it belongs to a coworker (see initials under ˈownerˈ) you should ask the person before
using or taking the chemical
